Chief Minister chairs RECODA Board of Directors’ Meeting

Chief Minister YAB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Adenan Haji Satem chaired the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) Board of Directors’ meeting at his office here, yesterday (Tuesday).

This was also the first RECODA Board of Directors’ meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, since assuming the post of Board chairman earlier this year.

At the meeting, RECODA Chief Executive Officer YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot, who is the Secretary to the Board of Directors, gave a briefing on the latest updates regarding RECODA. Apart from that, the CEO provided the Board with the overall scenario and progress of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

Director of State Planning Unit, Chief Minister’s Department, YBhg Datu Haji Ismawi Haji Ismuni also briefed the Board with regards to investment updates in SCORE.

Attending the meeting were the two deputy chairmen of the RECODA Board of Directors; Deputy Chief Minister, YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Alfred Jabu anak Numpang and Industrial Development Minister, YB Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah bin Ali Hassan.

Also in attendance at the meeting were State Secretary, YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani; Secretary-General of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, YBhg Datuk Dr Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria; Director-General of Public Private Partnership Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department, YBhg Dato’ Ahmad Husni bin Hussain; and representatives from Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department and from the Treasury, Ministry of Finance.

The RECODA office, which was established in 2009, is the secretariat to the RECODA Board of Directors. Prior to the setting up of this office, the State Planning Unit in the Chief Minister’s Department was the secretariat to the Board, since early 2008, when SCORE was launched.

Among the top priorities for RECODA is to coordinate, liaise, monitor, facilitate or oversee the implementation or execution of public (Federal) funded infrastructure projects approved by the State Planning Authority or any other government agency within the growth nodes of SCORE.

The roles of RECODA are defined by the Regional Corridors Development Authorities Ordinance, 2006 that was passed by the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly on 11 December 2006.

Human Resources Industry Summit

On 26 June 2014, RECODA participated in the Human Resources Industry Summit. Held in Pullman Hotel, Kuching, the event was held in conjunction with the promotion of National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) to those in the technical training/education field.

SME Week

Held at REDEEM Centre Bau in Kuching on 20th June 2014, SME Week was organized to expose and share information about facilities and services provided by the government to micro entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak.

Officiated by YB Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, Assistant Minister for Industrial Development Sarawak, SME Week also featured various programmes held throughout the state including Sarawak Youth Day, talks and mentoring programmes.

Sarawak SCORE was present at SME Week to share and showcase the current developments within SCORE.


The 17th annual SME showcase, SMIDEX 2014, was held from 4th to 6th June 2014 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Held to showcase the capabilities of Malaysian SMEs in production, services and technologies for the global market, SMIDEX 2014 was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

According to SME Corp Malaysia Chairman Datuk Mohamad Al Amin Abdul Majid, this year’s SMIDEX generated more than RM300 million in potential sales.

Sarawak SCORE was present at SMIDEX 2014 to showcase the latest developments within SCORE and potential it has for investors.

Sibu Friendship Cities & Trade Expo

The Sibu Friendship Cities & Trade Expo was held in Dewan Suarah Sibu, from the 21st to 29th May 2014.

Organised by the Sibu Municipal Council, the event marked the 40th anniversary of Diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China and featured 68 exhibition booths. Five friendship cities from China also participated in the event, including Fuzhou Municipality, Nanping Municipality, Gutian County, Pingnan County from the province of Fujian and Puyang County from the Province of Henan.

During the Expo, SCORE was invited to give a seminar to create awareness and provide information on the developments taking place in SCORE as well as the potential for investment projects in SCORE. The seminar was open to the delegates attending the event, visitors and the people of Sibu.

Sibu Friendship Cities & Trade Expo hopes to encourage Malaysian and Chinese entrepreneurs to strengthen economic ties and increase trade between the two countries.

The event was officially declared open by Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh. The Expo was co-organised by the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sarawak China Trade Importers and Exporters Association, Sibu Hardware Importers Association, Sibu Drug Merchants Association and Sarawak Stationers and Book Sellers Association.

Other events that took place during the Expo included a photography contest, children’s colouring contest, a presentation on Manufacturing Business by the Industrial Development Ministry and a talk on Investment’s Field and Opportunity.

Sarawak Career and Training Fair 2014 (SCAT Fair)

The Sarawak Career and Training Fair 2014 (SCAT Fair), was held this year from 15th to 16th March at the Borneo Convention Centre in Kuching.

Jointly organised by Workforce Development Unit (WDU) and Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera (TEGAS), SCAT Fair hopes to provide and promote opportunities for the youth by gathering potential employers and educators. The event featured 220 booths from various training institutions, study and loan scholarship providers, private companies and government agencies including Sarawak SCORE, who was present to provide information about the developments within SCORE.

SCAT Fair also featured an Entrepreneurship Program coordinated by the Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development Unit, a Youth Leadership Bootcamp by Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak, job interviews as well as briefings by various educational institutes.
