The Sibu Friendship Cities & Trade Expo was held in Dewan Suarah Sibu, from the 21st to 29th May 2014.
Organised by the Sibu Municipal Council, the event marked the 40th anniversary of Diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China and featured 68 exhibition booths. Five friendship cities from China also participated in the event, including Fuzhou Municipality, Nanping Municipality, Gutian County, Pingnan County from the province of Fujian and Puyang County from the Province of Henan.
During the Expo, SCORE was invited to give a seminar to create awareness and provide information on the developments taking place in SCORE as well as the potential for investment projects in SCORE. The seminar was open to the delegates attending the event, visitors and the people of Sibu.
Sibu Friendship Cities & Trade Expo hopes to encourage Malaysian and Chinese entrepreneurs to strengthen economic ties and increase trade between the two countries.
The event was officially declared open by Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh. The Expo was co-organised by the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sarawak China Trade Importers and Exporters Association, Sibu Hardware Importers Association, Sibu Drug Merchants Association and Sarawak Stationers and Book Sellers Association.
Other events that took place during the Expo included a photography contest, children’s colouring contest, a presentation on Manufacturing Business by the Industrial Development Ministry and a talk on Investment’s Field and Opportunity.
